Back to School-without the extra lbs!
embracethenow asked:
I have to start out saying I love the new site! It looks amazing and as a student I find the idea behind it even more so.
I really have two requests.
I’m getting ready to do some back to school shopping and because I’ve lost around 30lbs throughout the past year, I don’t have that much left in my wardrobe that fits. I’m looking for the essential go to’s that I should look for since I’m almost starting from scratch.
Also, I’d love some tips on dressing more urban, but still quite casually?
Thanks!Starting from scratch is a tough place to be! A good friend of mine went through a very similar experience a year ago, and I had the pleasure of helping her “What Not To Wear”-style recreate her entire wardrobe. We dumped about 80% of her clothes, and got her started with some new stuff, all for only a few hundred dollars…. by the end of our endeavor, I was totally jealous of her new outfits! Hopefully I can help you do the same!
When I hear urban, I tend to think sort of edgy, and a bit more put-together looking than outside of the city. Hopefully I’m not off base for what you were hoping for! I’ve created several casual looks below that can be dressed up quite easily, in case you do end up heading out for a job interview, date, or night out with the ladies while you’re at school. :) I’ve also reused many of the same items, so you can see how easy it is to stretch even a small wardrobe!
Studs are still pretty hip for the fall, so you’ll see I’ve incorporated them into all three looks to try and tip over into that urban feel. The other trends I’ve picked out are florals, chambray, and stripes. No wardrobe should be without any of these 4 items this fall! Beyond that, patterned skirts are having a particularly strong comeback (were they ever really gone? Not from my wardrobe…), so I’ve tossed one in with an animal-print just for kicks.
Outfit 1 (Left) and Outfit 2 (Right):
Outfit 1 is an easy transitional outfit. I would toss it on in the morning, with nothing more than a messy bun or some bed-head curls, and a dash of mascara. I think this outfit would be great for a day on campus, or for grabbing pizza after class with friends. Or anything else, really. Sub in a plaid shirt to make another outfit out of the same basic pieces.
Outfit 2 is a slightly more dressed up version of basically the same genre of casual outfit. The pops of yellow make this look a little more put together looking. Any printed tee can dress this look down even more, and a blouse could take it up a notch.
Oufit 3: I’m not sure if you wear skirts, or if you see them as casual-wear… but I do! I’ve paired up a patterned skirt to stay on trend, with more neutral items. Wind a studded belt around your waist, and depending on which shoes you put with this, you could dash to class or to a date!
Outfit 4:
This outfit, incorporating a bold floral look, is still edgy enough because of the way it is paired with the moto jacket and studded flats. Also, I see wilder pairings such as these (feminine with more structured) as something very unique to urban fashion. When the temperature starts dipping, you’ll want a comfy jacket and cap to don as you head out the door!

Good luck!
